Technician Work

Cirque du Soleil

Technical Internship and USITT Training Grounds
Las Vegas, Nevada - 2025

Over the course of three months I was trained in live sound, fall safety, OSHA, and the culture of Cirque du Soleil. I had the chance to visit every resident Las Vegas production and take in-depth tours of the spaces, learning about how the shows were constructed and how they operate. My “home show” where I spent most of the summer was Michael Jackson ONE. They trained me to take over their audio deck track; I was responsible for guitar handoffs during performances as well as preparing and monitoring all guitars, microphones, and IEMS used in the show. I also spent two weeks with the audio team at learning their audio deck track as well.

A couple of weeks before the start of the internship, I participated in the USITT Training Ground program where I traveled with a group of college-age theatre technicians to visit most of the Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas. Each day was dedicated entirely to touring and learning about one show, and the audio-centric people including myself had the honor of having the sound designer, Jonathan Deans, be a part of our group each day. He provided heaps of fascinating insight, wisdom, and anecdotes from both his work with Cirque du Soleil and otherwise.

Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre

Audio Team Member (A2)
Logan, Utah - 2024

As a member of the audio team at Utah Festival Opera, I worked with three others to unpack all the company’s equipment, take a comprehensive inventory, install and troubleshoot all equipment and sound systems used for productions, and run performances. We set up and handled changeovers in the orchestra pit, installed video monitors, and worked closely with sound designers to ensure their needs were satisfactorily met.

As one of the A2s, I was charged with prepping all microphones and IEMS, placing them on performers and instruments, monitoring them throughout the performance, striking and cleaning them afterwards, and maintaining tracking paperwork. In addition, I was charged with live mixing the cabaret nights and one of the two orchestra concerts.

Texas Tech University

Live Mixer

The Threepenny Opera (2023), Xanadu (2024), Bright Star (2024), The Nerve of Minerva (2025)

One requirement of my B.F.A. is to receive and fulfill a production assignment every semester. As one of the few audio-focused undergraduates, I was assigned to mix every musical for my first two years. Each of these shows featured casts of 20+ performers that used microphones and live bands that used microphones and in-ear monitors. As the live mixer, it was my responsibility to lead the audio team, run microphone checks, troubleshoot issues, create mixes for the band monitors, and live mix all performances.

Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences

Audio Technician and On-Call for IATSE Local 865

Lubbock, TX March 2023 - Present

As an audio technician at the Buddy Holly Hall, my job is to welcome clients into the space and provide their audio needs. Most often these clients are local school band and choir concerts but I also get to work on holiday church services, comedians, touring bands, and small-scale productions from time to time. I set up the requested microphones, monitors, and playback tracks, and then I operate the sound console for them during their rehearsals and performances.

In addition to my employment at BHH, I also work with IATSE Local 865 as an on-call for the load-ins and load-outs of Broadway touring shows that come through the venue. These are some of my favorite gigs, because I get to not only see behind the curtain of some of the biggest and most renowned touring shows in the country like The Lion King and Les Miserábles but I get to meet their teams and help them install their show in our space.
